Prof. João Caramês erwarb seine fortgeschrittenen Fachkenntnisse in der Zahnmedizin an der New York University, wo er einen Postgraduiertenabschluss in oraler Rehabilitation und Implantologie erlangte und als erster Nicht-Amerikaner den renommierten Alumni Award der Universität erhielt. Zurück in Portugal gründete er das Instituto de Implantologia®, das die Zahnmedizin mit modernstem Wissen aus seiner internationalen Ausbildung revolutionierte. Heute ist er Gastprofessor und Internationaler Direktor im Bereich der Fort- und Weiterbildung an der NYU sowie Leiter der Forschungsgruppe für Implantologie an der Oral and Biomedical Sciences Research Unit (UICOB). Mit über 30 Jahren Erfahrung und mehr als 50.000 eingesetzten Implantaten zählt er zu den weltweit führenden Experten in der Implantologie. Zudem entwickelte er die weit verbreitete „Caramês-Klassifikation“, ein maßgeschneidertes System zur optimalen Behandlung individueller Patientenbedürfnisse.
